A week ago we took Kennedy to the San Diego Zoo. We wandered about looking at elephants, zebras, gorillas, giraffes, hippos, lions, kangaroos, rhinos, koalas and … well..you get the idea. We were still walking about trying to find the Monkey Trail when a zookeeper escorted us towards the exit. The zoo was closing and our exploration needed to come to an end. Kennedy wasn’t too happy about the escort as she exclaimed, “But I didn’t see the porcupine!”
Porcupine? We chuckled and wondered where that came from. Later while looking at the zoo map, we saw a teeny picture of a the pokey critter in the above photo. It was in the bottom left corner where the Discovery Post (formerly Children’s Zoo) is located.
Today we took all three grands to the zoo. Guess what we went to see first? The porcupine! Now this pokey critter pictured above impressed Kennedy even though it’s not a porcupine. It’s a Short-nosed Echidna and…it’s the critter whose picture she spotted on the map last week. We did see an actual porcupine too. An Indian Crested Porcupine.
Despite the President’s Day holiday crowds we had a wonderful time. Kennedy saw her porcupine. Austin really wanted to experience the Butterfly Jungle but … he’ll have to wait until April. That won’t be a problem either because we bought all the grands membership so we can go to back to the … Zoo Zoo Zoo, How about You You You?!?
