When NY started flying to Shanghai, China last spring I honestly had no desire to go with him. The fact that it’s a foreign country with strict regulations ruled by a communist government scared me. Add to the mix a language that I can’t understand and written symbols that are beautiful to see but impossible (for me) to decipher … well, I had no plans on taking a holiday to China. Ever.
I do however love to be with my husband. So when the opportunity arose for me to go with him on a 6 day layover in Shanghai … well, here I am. In Shanghai, China!

Am I glad I came? Yes! It is a gorgeous country with buildings and gardens that date back to 1500 and earlier. And I’ve never in my life seen people so industrious and appreciative of the simple things in life.
How about you? Have you ever gone anywhere you really had no desire to visit? Were you impressed with your experience or sorry you went?

Oh Cathi, I am so thrilled that you went with NY and are having a wonderful time. Gorgeous photo of the two of you. I never knew what to expect when I went to New Brunswick, Canada years ago in the middle of winter. It was freezing cold, but so interesting to experience. Ah, the days of old hockey road trips.
