NY and I have been watching the recent news about Hurricane Isaac and its aftermath. It’s brought back memories of our time living in Florida during one of the busiest hurricane seasons in recent history. Being Californians through and through, we’ve lived through our share of earthquakes. But no shaking of the earth we’ve ever experienced came near to hurricane force winds and the wrath of mother nature battering our home.
The 2005 hurricane season was the most active Atlantic hurricane season in recorded history. That just happened to be when we were living in South Florida. We were hit dead on by Hurricane Wilma, which had achieved the level of a category 5, but was only a cat 3 when we met her personally. Katrina hit us earlier in the season, but was nothing compared to what she was when she hit New Orleans.
Wilma hit us dead on. First the east wall followed by an hour or so of quiet while the eye of the storm passed by. Then the west wall hit ripping apart screen houses, roofs and trees as shown in the photo above.
The Chevron station down the street took quite a beating from Wilma.
If there was a working gas station, people waited hours in lines that stretched on seemingly forever. Today our thoughts go out to all who are affected by hurricane Isaac. We hope and pray that all will be well.
Have you experienced any natural disasters?

Last year Hurricane Irene came up to our part of New York. It was surreal to live through because while snow storms are the norm, huge amounts of rain, wind, and all that goes with these big storms are not something we know how to prepare for.

Thankfully nothing catastrophic. Remnants of a hurricane a couple of times. But what comes to mind is “the Blizzard of 1976”. Here in RI, the state shutdown for a week due to the amount of snow.

Nothing comes to mind other than the eruption of Mount St. Helens in 1980 – but we were far enough away in the Seattle area not to have major fallout from that, aside from a layer of ash on everything. 🙂 The hurricane would have been a scary thing to go through!

Living in Kentucky, we are often in the path of tornado warnings. Luckily, I’ve never personally experienced one, but they have been all around us many times.

Im from California so have been through a few earthquakes. I was in LA for the Northridge earthquake many years ago so I felt that one big time!

We get our fair share of tornadoes, blizzards and an occasional earthquake. I’m still looking for that perfect place.
Have a great weekend!

The most I’ve experienced are hurricanes and storms.
We are okay from Isaac, but many are affected terribly.

No, I haven’t but my heart goes out to those who have. I can’t imagine what they must go through to restart their lives!
