If ‘a picture is worth a thousand words,’ you can count on the fact that it must have had good lighting!
Lighting to a photographer is as important as words are to a writer. Obtaining just the right lighting to capture an image truly is an art form. The author Eib Eibelshaeuser, of The Art of Photographic Lighting, and published by Rocky Nook, has created an excellent resource for photograpers in pursuit of just the right shot. Regarding lighting, it offers historical perspective with magnificent examples of illustrations as well as instructive commentary and photographs.
The Art of Photographic Lighting deals for the most part with the manipulation of artifical light in photography, but also delves into the behaviour of natural sun light and how it can be used in a myriad of settings.
Photographic difference between a subject directly lit and indirectly lit.
An example of direct light.
“Hard light”
