We received complimentary admission to facilitate this review of Medieval Times in Buena Park, CA. All thoughts and opinions are our own.
When we took our three grandchildren to Medieval Times, we knew we were in for a lively experience, as well as a fun dinner. Medieval Times makes traveling back in time easy. Once you don your crown, you’re on your way. On your way to chivalry, royalty and an action packed adventure. A night with the knights! Checking into the ‘castle’ was smooth and easy. Our reservations were confirmed and we were presented with the color coded crowns we’re pictured wearing. The color of crown determines the spectator seating section and the color of the knight representing that section. Along the way professional photos were taken that would be available later for purchase. And for the brave of heart, before even entering the arena, there’s the optional Torture Chamber. The three grandkids were excited to take that in, with me in tow. (Cathi opted out.) It was filled with devices of an era and practices that are best bygone!
We took this photo of our own clan, black & white crowns and all! We were soon seated ring side with fellow black & white crowned spectators. Ready we were to cheer our Black & White Knight on to victory!
The arena is large with a great view from every seat. There are five dining levels around the arena. Food is served all while cheering on your knight … and booing opposing knights!
While we waiting for the first course of the feast, Austin was eager for the festivities to commence. The menu is set and features chicken and beef. There is a vegetarian option available, as long as this dietary request is made known at check-in. The staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. And as was the custom of old, food is served without utensils. (Our Cody and Kennedy may have been the only children in attendance that asked for forks and spoons!)
Before the tournament began this brilliant white horse danced, literally, about the arena to wild cheering and the delight of the audience. The stunts this horse performed were amazing.
This falcon displayed its talents and abilities which elicited even more excitement and cheers from the crowd, as it flew high and low about the arena.
There was all the pageantry one could imagine at a royal tournament. Especially so when the King and his court made their entrance.
The king rules supreme from high above in his royal box along with his heir, the Princess.
Out of respect, knights display allegiance to the king and his court.
Our Black & White knight (with red accents) did his best to rally his faithful followers.
Each knight was introduced to the delight and frenzy of their section of fans.
Knights would ride at high rates of speed that didn’t spare the horses!
Each knight, outfitted in their specific color, was prepared to fight! They dueled and jousted with each other to victory or defeat.
Each horse-mounted knight had a limited number of flowers to throw to admirers in their section. Much to her delight, our very own princess received this carnation from our Black & White standard bearer.
Video highlights of our Medieval Times experience. (You can hear our grandson Cody cheering along!)
After our travel back in time, the fun didn’t end after returning to present day. With souvenirs in hand and enough new sword wielding technics to save a kingdom, our ‘night with the knights’ will not soon be forgotten. Now cousins and friends are getting into the act of chivalry and knighthood dueling.
If you haven’t been to Medieval Times, we highly recommend you make plans to go. If you have been, now is the time to take the trip back in time once again. You won’t be disappointed. And unlike our unlucky knight, yours just might win!

Cody is hilarious! They were really into the jousting huh? I love that capture of the horse doing tricks. That is a pretty amazing capture.
David says
Cody rembererd every move and trick he saw and did his best to reinact them all! And that particular horse was truly amazing. Kept shooting hoping to catch him in his act. This shot seems to have captured a fraction of the essence of his talents..

I’ve always wanted to take my niece and nephew to the medieval times here in IL but didn’t know if it was worth the money. After reading your post now maybe i will take them there for their birthday.
David says
Karen, It’s action packed entertainment and dinner too. Several people there were celebrating birthdays and other events. We know because their names were announced. If you go for a birthday, let them know when you check in. Then you could surprise you neice or nephew when their name is called out!
