Our little town was all over the news last week. We brought in the new year with an out-of-the-ordinary Southern California snow storm. Why out-of-the-ordinary? Because it doesn’t snow in Wildomar. (Never say doesn’t!) Just before midnight David and I awoke to a phone call from our daughter-in-law, Mindi, who was over the top excited about the snow falling in our little valley. Our grandkids were outside in the middle of night playing, as were other little ones throughout neighborhood after neighborhood.
We were excited with the novelty of it all. We took photo after photo in the cold of night (and a snow storm), knowing the flakes could very well be melted away by morning’s light. (And no, that’s not popcorn popping on the apricot tree. It’s snow!)
But New Year’s Eve morning we opened our front door to this! The snow had continued throughout the night and wee hours of the morning and our wussy Southern California trees simply could not handle it.
We saw snow, the likes of which I have never seen in my 38 years in Wildomar. It lasted for days, to the delight of most everyone.
Even Britt got a snowman! Small, but a snowman nonetheless.
The snow lent a look and feel (& gosh was it cold!) to our yard that was quite unusual.
Thank goodness for sons and grandsons! We have mighty young men to help us when needed!
Before the sun finally melted the fun away, our Kennedy made her own little snowman.
The local news stated just how extraordinary the snow was for Wildomar. With an elevation of 1,270 feet, we are considerably lower than Big Bear’s 6,759 foot height. Temperatures are now back in the high 70’s and low 80’s. Our snow days are a thing of the past. But what good memories we have.

Oh the poor trees! I’m sure it was fun though to have something so unusual happen!

I don’t know exactly where your town is, but I used to live in San Francisco, and it didn’t snow there, so southern CA would be a big surprise. Your poor trees didn’t seem to enjoy the novelty of it all.

Aww I have snow envy as I am wishing for snow to fall in here! I just want my son to experience it as he is more aware of his surrounding now. I know that he is going to enjoy the snow. Lovely photos!

I heard about this from friends and I couldn’t believe it! It’s finally snowing here in NYC, we didn’t get a white christmas this year, so mother nature is making up for it this week over here. I guess you sent us the snow this year! LOL
I always thought when I retire I would move to California because of no snow! Now I’m scared!
Happy Wordless Wednesday (I hopped on over from the WW linky hop!)

Ironically, we were having spectacular weather in the Midwest when you were getting snow.

Awww, your poor tree! But snow does cover the world in magic. We got our first dusting of the season yesterday.

Oh my, I am so thankful now for our big, strong Canadian Maple and Oak trees! If one of them falls down, or loses a limb: it’s a LOT of snow.
But what an incredible experience for you all to have. Now imagine, like us, it lasting a good 5 to 6 months! 🙂

Thanks for linking up to my WW linky. Snow is CA? That I had to see. I lived in L.A. for 20 years.

That’s a ton of snow that you had in your area. There is no snow in the tropics here. It must be extremely cold where you are.

Whoah – that is amazing! I mean, I know that kind of sight, but in SoCal? It must have totally stopped – everything, right?

WOW… great pictures! And how cool must it have been to have snow in So Cal?
Cathy Kennedy says
Wow, this is amazing, Cathi! I hate the cold and snow…mostly the cold, but it is a delight to see snow falling. We don’t get much accumulation here in the Tennessee Valley unlike the Smokies so when we do get it it is a treat, but our city freaks out terribly so! I wish we had some of your 70s & 80s temps, though. Last week, we were freezing! Thanks for linking up last week on #WW. I’m finally making my rounds! 😉
