At 5 or 6 years of age I remember laying in bed at night, watching the moon out my window. I dreamed of being an astronaut. But more than that dream, I remember being told I could never be an astronaut because I probably wasn’t smart enough. It’s one of my strongest memories and obviously not a good one.
I also remember wanting a tool box for Christmas as a child. One year Santa brought me a shiny blue tool box. It was filled with everything I needed to build things, and (much to my father’s dismay!) take things apart. (*wink) To this day I’m not afraid to get the tools out and fix, build, or switch up anything that needs it in the house or the yard. When David and I got married I think he was surprised with the nails, bolts and whatnots that found their way into the washing machine from my pockets.
Little girls (and boys) need to be taught from the get-go that they can grow up to be anything they want. They can follow their dreams if they study, practice and work hard. American Girl is all about teaching girls they can be all that they dream they can be. With American Girl not only do little girls learn to care for a Bitty Baby, but they learn history and culture with the gorgeous line of ‘BeForever‘ dolls. And now American Girl has stepped it up a notch with a fun and impressive line of Mega Bloks building sets! We’re delighted to partner with American Girl to introduce these awesome new construction sets.
I remember when Saige joined American Girl. Her southwestern style and love of painting was enough to encourage any little girl to give the arts a go. ‘Saige’s Art Studio‘ can not only inspire girls to let their creativity soar, but it can also help build their confidence for following blueprints (plans/directions), sorting construction materials (blocks, bricks and studio decorations), and of course sparking their imaginations.
The American Girl ‘Mega Bloks’ are boxed sets with easy-to-follow directions. The building parts are bagged in smaller sets, but children still needs to sort and think about the directions. They need to use their brain a bit which in this overwhelming day of technology is a ‘good thing’.
Our granddaughter, Kennedy, was surprised that each piece wasn’t bagged in sets. In other words, she expected all the pieces needed to build the paint table to be together. They weren’t. She quickly learned that it’s much more fun to sort the pieces by shape and color, and go from there.
I love American Girl’s attention to detail. Right down to the glass with a straw that sits on the little round table …
… and the lantern that hangs on the outside of the studio.
After Kennedy worked at building the art studio, she and Saige had plenty of fun together with imaginative play. Kennedy even took the set on her spring break family camping trip for entertainment with her brother, who loves construction sets.
There are eight American Girl Mega Bloks building sets that are currently available at ‘Toys R Us‘ stores in the U.S. and Canada.
