Moana. Have you heard about it yet? It’s Walt Disney Animation Studios’ new film. And I’m here to tell you: It. Is. Fabulous! Recently, I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview from one of the film’s animators at Disney Social Media Moms On The Road at Disneyland. It’s an incredible family film that will be released in theaters just in time for the upcoming holiday season. Check out the brand new Moana trailer. I bet you laugh out loud!
This full-featured animated film, starring newcomer Auli‘i Cravalho as Moana, and Dwayne Johnson as Maui, opens in theaters this Thanksgiving!
The animation artwork of Moana is simply gorgeous. But who is Moana? “Moana is the 16-year-old daughter of the chief of Motunui. She’s athletic, nimble, compassionate and incredibly smart. She has a never-say-die attitude and a profound connection to the ocean.” That’s straight from Ron Clements, the director of Moana.
“The story of Moana is inspired in part by the oral histories of the people and cultures of Oceania. Three thousand years ago, Polynesian voyagers, the greatest navigators in the world, voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering thousands of islands. But then, according to scholars, for approximately a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows exactly why.” – (Disney Press Release)
Young Moana is drawn to the ocean, so it troubles her that her people won’t go beyond the reef surrounding their island. Her Gramma Tala is full of exciting stories and encouragement.
Moana sets out on the ultimate adventure to save her people. She meets up with the larger than life demigod Maui and together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage.
They encounter enormous monsters and the cute, but menacing Kakamora. But along the way Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her people and discovers her own identity.
There’s so much more to Moana, both the girl and the film. I’m guessing this is going to be one of Disney’s best productions ever. I simply cannot wait to see the film in it’s entirety. You’ll probably feel the same way after you too see the sneak preview.
