Our very first American Girl doll, Samantha Parkington, joined our family just short of 30 years ago. Since then, just as American Girl has grown, so has our collection of dolls. I believe American Girl goes to great lengths to help girls feel good about themselves; to celebrate their own individuality and uniqueness. A brilliant way they’re doing this is with their ‘Girl of the Year’ line of dolls. It’s one of the many reasons we’re happy to partner with American Girl and introduce … Gabriela McBride, American Girl’s 2017 Girl of the Year!
The 18” Gabriela doll (aka Gabby) has beautiful curly dark-brown hair and warm brown eyes. She’s wearing a cropped purple sweater and a soft turquoise tank top. She’s also wearing jeggings, underwear, and shoes. Girls are sure to love Gabriela’s pink double headband, 10 rubber/tie bands, and her very own Gabriela paperback book. Our granddaughter is over the moon in love with Gabby’s gorgeous thick curls.
Gabby comes from an artistic family and loves expressing herself through art. She’s always loved the dance studio but, as of late, poetry is becoming her art of choice. She’s learned that reading and reciting poetry is helping her struggle with stuttering. Her speech is flowing more freely and her confidence is growing stronger. Gabby is most comfortable in the dance studio. But she’s taking big steps with the power of her words as she rallies people together to save the community arts center. You can read all about her story in ‘Gabriela’ written by Teresa E. Harris.
So … what do you think? Isn’t Gabriela adorable? Gabriela can be found online at American Girl; in the American Girl retail locations nationwide; and on Amazon. Come March, Gabriela will be available at Toys “R” Us.
