What’s the first thing you notice about a house when you drive by? They say it’s all about curb appeal. In many neighborhoods this day and age, most homes all look alike. Every third or fourth house will probably be the same house with perhaps a different color scheme. In most cases, the only difference between look-alike houses is the front yard. Making our ouse stand out is why we’re happy to partner with Monrovia Nursery Company.
Is there a lawn? Is there landscape? Is there any color?
We live in Southern California and until about year and a half ago we had a front lawn that was a gorgeous green. But drought conditions did it under. By the time watering restrictions were modified, our front yard was more or less brown. And in some patches, not even dead grass. Just bare dirt.
Thinking back, it had been way too long since we were able to lay back on the front lawn and watch the clouds go by. You know, when you see who can find the most cloud shaped animals and whatnot. Anyway, not knowing when watering constraints might be fully lifted, we decided maybe a green lawn right now wasn’t all that necessary.
But we definitely wanted a pop of color to be part of the landscape. The kind of color that only beautiful flowers could give. So we sat down with pen and paper and mapped out what we wanted to plant and where. We’re still a long way from our goal, but we have made good progress.
And we’re making that progress with Monrovia. We made our purchases at our local Lowe’s store. But if there isn’t a Lowe’s near you, you can buy your plants directly from Monrovia.
David was more than happy to go shopping for the new brightly colored flowers suited to our Southern California area. He’s a gardener at heart and enjoys digging about in the dirt. Plants grow healthier and better in our area in pots because much of our ground is hard, like decomposed granite.
David began the project by organizing the potting table while planning with which clay pot was suited best for each new flower. He carefully transplanted each of the different plants with the perfect mixture of soil. I sat back happily watching from the window knowing he was in one of his happiest places. That alone sent my heart to the moon and back.
Is your happy place digging in the dirt? Do you have a special someone that finds pleasure in the garden? You’re in luck! Monrovia offers gift cards which would be perfect for upcoming Mother’s and Father’s Day.
So, are you ready to make your yard everything you’ve dreamed it could be? Be it shopping online or wandering about the garden section of your local Lowe’s store, Monrovia is there for you. I love flowers. I have a decently green thumb, and I enjoy having blooms all around the house. It’s easy to do here in Florida.

My curb appeal is horrible. We have a large dog who has run a path into our grass, and it’s horrid looking. We’re also waiting on our city to fix the curbs, so we don’t want to plant anything out on our parkway until that happens. These are some great ideas for then
