Our family has quite the history with the San Diego Safari Park. We’ve been members of the San Diego Zoological Society for over 35 years. We enjoy visiting both the zoo and Safari Park year round. Our kids all but grew up at the Safari Park, attending summer day camps and holiday celebrations. There have been many changes over time, with a lot of fun activities added. A few weeks ago our youngest son, Todd, and our two youngest grandkids experienced the new San Diego Safari Park Jungle Ropes. We’re here to tell you they had a blast!
The Jungle Ropes Safari is a 90-minute adventure walking high amongst the branches of the trees. It’s not a walk in the park though. You’ll find yourself climbing, balancing and swinging from one spot to the next. There are rope bridges, aerial tightropes, swinging logs, and many other thrills that test your ability to maneuver through the treetops.
Jungle Ropes is for ages 7 and older. Cody, 13, and Kennedy, 11, loved every single minute of it. While it is possible to buy your tickets at Safari Park, it’s best to reserve your preferred time beforehand, either online or by phone. Two reasons: 1. You can reserve your choice of available times; and 2. You can save money!
You’re fit with a safety harness and gloves by trained staff. Every safety precaution is in play, including the Smart Belay system to use at your own pace as you navigate through each of the unique jungle skills.
Rest assured that you’re never completely left on your own. There’s always a staff member within ear-shot watching from below. After a short training session, you’re off to explore one of three different courses. The courses are categorized by skill level. There are two for beginners, designated as yellow. And there’s a green course for those that complete both yellow courses.
I love this boy’s smile. It makes my heart sing! Todd sent Cody and Kennedy out in front while he brought up the rear. He was always able to see where they were and how they were doing. Good thing too, because we were only able to see them for a short while during a particular section of the course.
And that particular viewing spot? How cool is this? On the wooden bridge between the Lemurs and the elevator, the Jungle Ropes Safari course transversed right over the heads of passersby. It’s awesome! It was here that we were able to see and talk with Todd and the kiddos.
So, are you an adventure seeker looking for your next thrill? Don’t miss the selection of exciting adventures that Safari Park has to offer. The kids also did the Flightline Safari, which took them zip lining over the wilds of the Asian Savanna and the African Plains. But that’s a tale for another day.
Don’t forget to check out the amazing animals while having the best time ever! You see, it doesn’t matter if you’re thirteen or thirty-five. You need to find time to be silly and have fun!
David says: It was fun seeing them have so much fun. And they definitely got a lot of fresh air and exercise.
Cathi says: I had the best time watching Todd and the grandkids climb through the treetops. I look forward to giving Jungle Ropes a go with David!
Todd says: Jungle Ropes is a good experience for all ages. It really is a lot of fun traveling through the treetops like a monkey!
Cody says: Hold on, don’t freak out and have fun!
Kennedy says: My favorite part was the four short zip lines during the Jungle Ropes.

That is so cool your family has been members of this animal park for 35 years. I didn’t know they had jungle ropes there, too. We love to zipline and these jungle ropes look just as much fun!
