Sometimes it can be hard to teach young children lessons in positive behavior. Lessons in forgiveness. Lessons in seeing the good in life. The easiest way of course is by example. Another easy and fun way is through books. The right book will provide the perfect words along with the perfect pictures. The A Little Zen for Little Ones book series are just that. Perfect books for teaching good lessons.
A Little Zen for Little Ones puts classic and new Zen stories in an easy to understand books for children and adults! All three stories brought me great enjoyment and made me pause to think. Children identify with other children. A Little Zen for Little Ones stories are based around children who show wisdom beyond their years. The stories are everyday stories that many of us, children and adults alike, have experienced.
Maybe is based on an ancient and beloved Zen fable. This story is about a wise girl who experiences a series of events that at first seem lucky (or unlucky) but then turn out to be quite the opposite. A lesson for all!
Still There? teaches us how to be helpful regardless of the disposition of those around us. And if things aren’t perfect, let it go and make the best of the situation.
Remember the Stars tells the story of a young boy who not only teaches his parents a fine lesson in slowing down to enjoy the moment, he also taught me too. I like to think I take life one moment at a time. That I’m always ready to drop everything and run outside to see the butterfly or lizard that my grandchildren want to show me. But I know I’m not. Sometimes I miss the delight just by taking a few moments to finish what I’m doing. And this is why Remember the Stars is my favorite A Little Zen for Little Ones book.
