While browsing Pinterest I came across a recipe for Candy Corn Rice Krispie Treats from My Creative Stirrings. I tweaked it a bit and made the end product smaller for the 160 little fingers that would be devouring them at our grandkid’s Halloween party.
I think everyone enjoys Rice Krispie Treats. I know I do! A lot! The layered colors and shapes of candy corn just add a touch of Halloween magic to the treats.
Ingredients:
- 8 tablespoons butter (1 stick)
- 9 cups mini marshmallows
- 9 cups crispy rice cereal
- natural food colors, red and yellow
The ingredients will be divided three ways. It’s not necessary to do it ahead of time. I divided as needed.
- Line three bread pans with parchment paper and grease with butter.
First batch:
- Measure 3 cups crispy rice cereal into a large bowl and set aside.
- Melt 2 and 1/2 tablespoons of butter in large saucepan over low heat.
- Add 3 cups mini marshmallows and stir until melted and creamy.
- Pour marshmallow mixture over crispy rice cereal and mix well.
- Divide the marshmallow cereal mixture into the three prepared bread pans. Press firmly keeping level.
Second Batch:
- Measure 3 cups crispy rice cereal into a large bowl and set aside.
- Melt 2 and 1/2 tablespoons of butter in large saucepan over low heat.
- Add 3 drops red food coloring and 4 drops yellow food coloring to make orange.
- Mix well.
- Add 3 cups mini marshmallows and stir until melted and creamy.
- Pour marshmallow mixture over crispy rice cereal and mix well.
- Divide the orange marshmallow/cereal mixture and layer over the first layer in bread pans.
- Press firmly keeping level.
Third Batch:
- Measure 3 cups crispy rice cereal into a large bowl and set aside.
- Melt 2 and 1/2 tablespoons of butter in large saucepan over low heat.
- Add 7 drops yellow food coloring.
- Mix well.
- Add 3 cups mini marshmallows and stir until melted and creamy.
- Pour marshmallow mixture over crispy rice cereal and mix well.
- Divide the orange marshmallow/cereal mixture and layer over the first & second layer in bread pans. Press firmly keeping level.
- Cover and let set over night to firm.
- When set (not able to push your finger in) turn loaf out onto a cutting board.
- Slice loaf length wise into four even slices.
- Cut each slice into triangular shapes as shown in photo.
Voila! Candy Corn Rice Krispie Treats!
Enjoy!!
