Anaheim, California is overflowing with hotels, motels and the like. “The Happiest Place On Earth”, aka Disneyland (among other area attractions), draws a myriad of visitors every year. At the end of the day, most visitors want somewhere to rest and rejuvenate so they can be among the first into Disneyland the next day. I’ve never taken a head count of how many rooms there are to rent near Disneyland, but I do know that some are nicer than others … much nicer. With NY working in the travel industry, we are away from home quite often. I will say right up front that I can be a hard critic when it comes to hotels. My expectations are high. I’ve come expect a home away from home feeling.
We recently had an opportunity to stay at the Hotel Menage. A quarter of a mile from Disneyland’s Main Gate, the Hotel Menage is conveniently located. You could walk farther than that from your parked car to the Disneyland tram! We’ve been intrigued with the art deco ambiance of the hotel for quite sometime as we’ve driven by nearly every time we enter the Disneyland Mickey & Friends parking structure.
My first impression of a hotel happens before I actually exit my car. And Hotel Menage impressed! The valets were welcoming and courteous. AND they didn’t rush us, even with two young grandkids in tow. The front desk staff was wonderful and informative. They answered all of our questions providing us with everything we needed to make our stay very pleasant. The lobby was inviting with room for large groups of people to gather and sit comfortably.
The hotel has everything a traveler could possibly want. The Business Center, also known as the ‘Red Room,’ is equipped with computers and printers. I for one utilize business center’s, especially when traveling by air, to print out boarding passes, etc., before going to the airport. Our grandchildren were over the top crazy about the glass elevators. They were amazed with the view while riding up and down … which we may have done more times than I’m willing to admit, or just lost count!
The poolside Palapa Bar is reminiscent of an island getaway. Located near the swimming pool it’s securely gated to prevent any precocious children from bellying up to the bar!
We spent time on a Friday evening at the pool and jacuzzi. Surrounded by huge shady palm trees, oversized sitting areas and lounge chairs, our grandchildren swam as we relaxed and looked on. Everyone poolside seemed to enjoy the beautiful surroundings enhanced by the setting sun.
We stayed in one of the four International Suites. Each suite is unique to a different world locale. Ours was the European Suite. We knew we were in for a treat when our grandchildren entered the room before we did and all we could hear were “Oooooos…..!” and “Ahhhhhs…..!”
The decor was inviting and impressive with lovely tile flooring. It reminded me very much of a smart Parisian apartment or New York City loft space. As seen in the above photos, there’s a sitting area with an oversized sofa and three comfortable chairs. In the back is the coffee maker, ice bucket and one of the phones. There’s plenty of counter space to utilize if staying for just a night or an extended period of time. The California King bed gives an idea of exactly how roomy the suite is. There are two large wall mounted flat screen televisions … one positioned for the bed area; the other for the sitting area.
The writing desk was simple and well lit with ample room for a laptop/notebook. The wheeled desk chair was comfortable. That, believe it or not, is very important to me. There were two big comfy bathrobes, an ironing board and extra bedding for our use.
Are there any projects you dream about doing in your home? I have plenty, and one of them is installing a bowl sink in our guest bathroom. Just saying. Now … have a look at the glass vanity sink in the European Suite. Love it!
Do you like a big shower? How about a huge one with multiple shower heads? I also believe one of the trademarks of a good hotel is providing plenty of bath linens. We had more than enough. Way more than we used. Even with swimming! (Towels are available poolside.)
Another of the four different and unique suites available is the Asian Suite. The sitting area again was spacious and the suite was appointed with a California King bed.
Standard rooms, with sleeping room for four, are available with two queen beds, a king bed, and hideaway, or a king bed and a queen bed, starting at just $99.
Hotel Menage has over 5,000 square feet of meeting space along with a 2,500 square foot ballroom. There are also several ‘breakaway’ rooms for parties, meetings, gatherings, etc., available in various decors, themes, and colors. Pictured are the “Retro Room’ and “White Room.”
The k’ya Restaurant & Bar is conveniently located adjacent to the main lobby. The menu has a varied selection of dishes and flavors from around the world, all reasonably priced. Not one menu item is priced over $10. We loved k’ya and the food was absolutely delicious. There was truly something for everyone’s’ taste.
A ‘waterfall’ prominently visible upon entering k’ya was an intrigue to the little ones!
The glass elevators provided afore-mentioned views and the pool area was a great source of entertainment and enjoyment.
And … kids will be kids!
The pool area and overlooking rooms boast a unique vantage point for the nearly nightly Disneyland firework extravaganza. We found many great vantage points to view the spectacular and world-famous event. Would we stay at Hotel Menage again? In a heartbeat! Not only is the Hotel Menage a Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotel but they also connect with their guest through Facebook and Twitter. Cheers for social media!!
Be sure to see our review of the standard King Bedroom and Double Queen Bedroom along with a view of the Disneyland fireworks while swimming!
No compensation was received for this post. We did receive a complimentary one night stay in the European Suite to facilitate our review.
