A few weeks ago we spent some time at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles. I have always been intrigued by paleontology and I was fascinated to see actual digging.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art which is located right next to the La Brea Tar Pits recently built an underground parking garage. During the course of construction the skeleton (almost complete) of an adult mammoth was discovered which is on display in the George C. Page Museum.
The park like grounds around the George C. Page Museum are beautiful. Besides the black (with an occasional bubble) tar pits…
…there’s a large arbor with gourds growing with the support of good old fashioned panty hose and an interesting vegetable garden growing in peat gravel. I’m curious how radishes can grow plump and round surrounded by the pressure from the tiny stones.
The museum is built with grassy earth surrounding it on three sides. It would have taken my kids and/or grandkids about two-seconds before they started rolling down the glorious grassy knolls surrounding the museum! We didn’t roll but we did walk down the hill. hehe
There’s also life-size models of prehistoric animals.
I am in love with atrium in the center of the museum. From the abstract structure above it to…
…the meandering path winding through the lush gardens within.
…the meandering path winding through the lush gardens. There are many different ways to enjoy and explore the La Brea Tar Pits including a night at the museum. How cool is that!?!
We chose to park along Wilshire Blvd instead of the underground parking and when we returned to our car we found Wilshire Blvd lined with lunch trucks. Too bad we weren’t hungry…as you can see from the video there was a truck to satisfy any palette including…cupcakes.
Way fun!
