I’m a self-described vegan … living with a family of carnivores. I giggle when I say it, but in all seriousness it’s true. Our oldest son doesn’t quite understand the transition I’ve made in food preferences. I simply smile and remind him he’s lucky I wasn’t vegan when I raised him on home-grown meats. Ha! With Gardein garden grown meatless protein I can serve vegan meals with the hearty taste of meat that my family likes. And it’s meatless for me. Yesterday I made Vegan Fish Tacos with Gardein fishless filets. I have to admit, no one actually asked if the fish had once been swimming in the ocean.
Gardein can be prepared in no time, which makes it a healthy “fast” food in my book. Our delicious fish tacos were quick, easy and perfect for a busy school night.
Ingredients:
- 1 bag Gardein fishless filets
- 10 corn tortillas
- 1 cup shredded cabbage
- 1 cup shredded red cabbage
- 3 medium size limes
- 1/2 thinly sliced small onion
- 1 cup slightly chopped cilantro
- 1 whole ripe avocado
- 1/2 cup dairy free sour cream
- Bake Gardein fishless filets as directed on package.
While the fishless filets are baking:
- Warm up or fry your corn tortillas which ever way you prefer.
Toss together in a large bowl:
- sliced cabbage
- sliced red cabbage
- 1/2 cup of the cilantro
- sliced onion
- the juice of 1 lime
Blend together in a blender or food processor to make a smooth sauce:
- 1/2 cup of the cilantro
- 1 whole ripe avocado
- 1/2 cup dairy free sour cream
- the juice of 1 lime
- 2 – 4 tablespoons water to get the consistency you prefer.
Put it all together:
- Slice each baked fish filet into 4 – 5 pieces.
- Cut the last lime into quarters.
- Fill each tortilla with fish, cabbage mixture and drizzle with the sauce.
- Serve as desired with lime quarters. We like to serve with a side of fresh fruit.
Enjoy!!

We have not a single vegan or vegetarian in my family. Your tortillas stay in place nicely, mine usually flop open.

Fish tacos. I haven’t had those in along time. Looks good.

Those look good! We do a lot of meatless meals and I think that would be a hit with the teens!

I have to admit, I had never heard of fishless fish tacos. I might try it if convinced that I wouldn’t notice a difference in texture.

That looks really good. I like that they offer gluten free options too.
