We have 3/4 of a gallon of milk in the fridge that outdated 4 days ago. I’ll throw it out today. I haven’t done it yet because I keep thinking about the people on the East Coast who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. All those people who are homeless and without food because Mother Nature ravaged their lives. I bet they would give anything to have a gallon of milk to feed their family. It breaks my heart.
And it’s because of Hurricane Sandy that I’ve been doing an overhaul on our personal food storage and emergency preparation plans. I’m very excited to work with the Milk Unleashed program promoting Tetra Pak Shelf Safe Milk. I’m stocking my pantry with packaged milk so in case of an emergency and/or natural disaster, I will be able to feed my family. And let’s face it, the world can be a scary place right now.
So, what exactly is Milk Unleashed? Milk Unleashed is shelf safe milk that doesn’t require any refrigeration. Its real milk that is packaged in eco-friendly cartons that are perfect for school lunches, picnics, diaper bags, hand bags and travel. The milk is flash-heated at high temperatures, ultra pasteurization, which eliminates bacteria. The Tetra Pak shelf safe cartons protect the milk from air, light, and other contaminants. This keeps the milk safe without refrigeration or preservatives for six to nine months. Once the package is opened however it needs to be used as regular refrigerated milk.
We have the pleasure of entertaining (or perhaps they entertain us!) our youngest grandchildren several days a week. The day after our box of Tetra Pak milk arrived, both Kennedy and Cody were over the top excited about it. They both picked out a carton for their school lunches.
The next day we picked them up from school and they went straight to the pantry and grabbed a Tetra Pak milk for an after school snack. I can honestly say, Tetra Pak Shelf Safe Milk is now a staple in our pantry. Whether it be for the grandkids lunches or snacks, a bit of nutrition on the go or for emergency preparedness, Milk Unleashed is a necessity.

Everyone needs to have an emergency kit for their family. The east coast is living our CA earthquake so we all need to be prepared for what WILL happen to us here in So Cal. I’ve got my boxes of milk ready to drink with my favorite cookies when my power goes off:)

I keep it for lunch boxes! I want them to have milk with their lunches, but I need something that is safe if it doesn’t stay cool enough. It is great for school field trips, too, when I can’t send an ice pack because they need to be able to throw away their lunch sack.

Shelf stable means if the power goes out the milk will not go bad, hence I’d add the milk to my earthquake preparedness kit.
Hope to win!
