There’s a lot to be said about first impressions. It could very well be an impression that lasts forever regardless of what happens from that point forward. If you’re talking with a real estate professional, they’ll more than likely mention how important curb appeal is. Curb appeal = first impression. It’s what people will remember about a house. Your house. And more specifically your front door.
The exterior of our house is not unique, but quite typical of So Cal home architecture. Don’t get me wrong. It’s beautiful. But the structure is simple and low maintenance. We like it that way. The wooden window and door frames get a fresh coat of paint every few years and … voila… the house literally looks brand new again. Our front doors are another story. Painted a gorgeous shade of red, they’re known throughout the neighborhood. Directions to our home most always include, “The house with the red front doors.”
A front door, no matter how ornate or plain, should have handsome hardware: a door knob that makes a statement as people walk towards the entry. A door knob that welcomes people to your home. Unhinge Hardware provides just such a welcome. You’ll find handle sets, knobs, levers, deadbolts and keypads from a vast variety of brands. You’ll even find door knockers and other necessary accessories. We’re happy to have partnered with Unhinge Hardware in giving our front doors a redo.
We chose the Mayfair design by ez-set as replacement hardware. We have brass kick plates along the bottom of each door and wanted to carry out the brass theme. Because we have double doors we also needed the Mayfair dummy set. Our hardware arrived with step-by-step installation instructions, complete with details for even brand new doors that have yet to have knob holes drilled. Because we were replacing hardware we simply removed the old and installed the new. To start the front door redo we gave our doors a fresh coat of paint to compliment the beautiful new hardware.
Virtually the only tool we needed was a Phillips head screwdriver.
*DIY Tip: Always gather the necessary tools before starting a project.
We followed the step-by-step instructions making sure with each step the hardware was working properly. Don’t get discouraged if there’s difficulty lining up screws. This sometimes happens with door hardware and is conquered with a wee bit of patience and finagling.
Installing the dummy set was easy peasy since there are no actual moving parts. Again, the hardest part was aligning screws at times, but basically a piece of cake!
Altogether we were able to install our new Unhinge Hardware in under an hour. Everything went smoothly and easily and we’re thrilled with the results. Our new Unhinge doorknobs are beautiful and they work perfectly. And we never had to leave the house to get them. That’s the glory of buying from Unhinge. Besides the competitive prices and variety of product options, they deliver right to your front door. That, friends, is a deal sealer for me!
Will we shop Unhinge again? You betcha. Customer service is awesome and we love their philosophy. Unhinge thinks everyone should be able to create their own unique home, minus a high price tag. They’re there to help each of us “unhinge our style”! They help with the inspiration, know-how, and hardware. The customer then creates their our dream home.
Unhinge helped us create ours! What does your dream front door look like?

We’ve been considering new hardware that incorporates a keyless entry. Will have to check them out to see if they offer something like that.

We have lived in our house for about three years. The doors are cheap-y looking & I would loooove to replace them. It’s great to know I can accessorize & style my front door with Unhinge to match my home so easily.

I had no idea it was that easy to change out the doorknob and lock. Ours are old and ugly and I’ve been wanting to update them to rubbed bronze or brush nickel. Thanks for the tutorial!

Oh my god! Now I really think I need to change the door handles of my home. We should always keep the minor detailing of our homes in mind including the door handles, knobs, etc.
Thanks for sharing.
