It seems that Valentine’s Day is synonymous with chocolate. So what better treat for the romantic holiday then Homemade Chocolate Brownies? I often frost brownies but in order to make a quick and easy Valentine’s Day treat, I decided to simply dust the brownies with powdered sugar.
I placed different heart-shaped cut-outs on each individual brownie. Then using a small sifter I lightly dusted them with powdered sugar. Easy Peasy!
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2/3 cup melted butter
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 2 cups white sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (I used Himalayan Fine Pink Salt)
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine 3/4 cocoa with 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. Add 1/2 (1/3 cup) of the melted butter and stir until blended. Add 1/2 cup boiling water and mix well.
Add 2 cups sugar, 2 large eggs and remaining butter ( 1/3 cup). Mix well.
Add 1 1/3 cups flour, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir together until well blended. Stir in 2 cups chocolate chips.
Spread batter evenly into a greased 9 inch by 13 inch pan. I use coconut oil to grease my pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 – 40 minutes.
Cut brownies into squares while slightly warm. Place heart-shaped cut-outs on each individual square.
Dust brownies with powdered sugar. I like to use an old-fashioned sifter. Carefully remove cut-outs and …
Enjoy!

Oh my gosh, these look SO good! I love the idea for the hearts on the top–so simple, yet I wouldn’t have thought of it. And I totally agree with you about grandchildren! I have 2 from my oldest at this point, and I ADORE them. It is so much fun to have them over, play, read, laugh, etc.! But the best part is that they go home (I am a bit pooped afterwards) for all the hard stuff–like raising them in today’s world. It’s a perfect combination! Happy Valentine’s Day!
