When we (NY & I) were children we played outside all day. We rode bikes, climbed trees and played ball. That was 50 years ago a long time ago though. A time when the only electronic thing in the house was a television. We bought our first computer when our youngest son was 16 and it wasn’t long before he was a whiz at email, surfing the Internet and of course, online games. And now, our young grandchildren have computer labs in elementary school. It’s amazing yet sad and a bit scary too. While computer skills are important in this day and age, I believe thinking & mastering motor skills are just as important. Children can have just as much fun, if not more, offline.
I think everyone could use a copy of “101 Offline Activities You Can Do With Your Child“, or grandchild in our case. The handy book is loaded with clever activities that will make summer days pass without complaints of boredom. So, put away the video games and disconnect from the Internet. Gather the kids together and get ready for some good old fashioned fun. Fun where everyone uses their brain! And…most of the activities require little or no preparation.
Our favorite is very reminiscent of an ongoing adventure story game we play with our grandchildren.
Adventure Treks: Intrepid explorers have to know how to avoid dangers like boiling-hot lava flows, alligators, snakes, crevices and quicksand. Choose your peril; your floor is now covered with it! To escape the danger, your young adventurers need to place stepping stones across the hazards. The stepping stones can include towels, throw pillows, sheets of paper, old clothes and sofa cushions.
How fun is that? Our grandchildren play this for hours! There are 100 more activities that are just as easy and mind stimulating. The physical activity is just a delightful addition. 101 Offline Activities You Can Do With Your Child is available on Amazon.
