I started dancing when I was 7 or 8 years old. I remember the Art Linkletter Dance Studio van that would pick me up from home and take me to dance class with my cousin Heidi. We’d dance our hearts out and then return home until the next week. I continued dance lessons until I was 16 years old, although at a different studio. At that time we moved a distance away and the drive was too long for me to make on my own.
Our daughter Britt enjoyed taking dance and danced her way through her all too short life. She danced her way into high school and into cheerleading both in high school and college. (I think she’s probably still dancing!)
Our granddaughter just started her first dance class. This week she excitedly said, “We did a passe in dance class today!”
How about you? Have you or your children taken dance lessons?

I took lessons when I was young. On and off until I was about 13. My daughter will be three this summer and she is going to start lessons in July.

We started our 3 yr old in her first class this Spring too – she loves it and has all the lingo down. π She loves the Arabesque…taking after her Mama!

I never took dance lessons and neither have any of my children. My kids all play(ed) sports. I would’ve liked for my daughter to take dance or cheerleading but she was more of a tomboy.

No, I never took dance lessons as a child. I liked swimming too much and really got into that. My son has had Israeli Dance at Hebrew school in the past and loved it. Actually, my little guy has it at nursery school as well.

No, I was never in dance, my parents really couldn’t afford anything for me. And my son, I think I am going to put him in gymnastics. He is a tumbler and has the perfect body!

I have not as yet, but I would love to! I’d like my daughter to take lessons and also myself. I’m not sure we have the funds for it though.

I studied ballet from age 9 through 17. I LOVED it. I danced 6 days a week all year long. I wanted to be a professional ballerina, but had some troubles in my teen years with anorexia and depression. I auditioned for and was admitted to the Washington School of Ballet and planned to attend my junior year of high school (had a mentor who was going to let me live with her family as mine lived too far away) but I was hospitalized that summer and never went. I have always regretted that I didn’t make it and that I let me fears and emotional issues get in the way.
My oldest daughter, now 5, took lessons for a few months and then decided she didn’t like it. Maybe one day she’ll go back.
Have a great Friday π
Love your pics!!

I’m not a very good dancer. I can do the “shuffle between left foot and right foot” moves pretty well and excel at those “everyone does the same moves at the same time” kind of dances. However, other than that I’m a dance-dunce. I guess it doesn’t help that I grew up seeing dancing as this thing on TV/movies where the protagonist did these incredible moves… then I’d try to replicate those moves and looked like a fool. (Of course, most anyone would look like a fool if they tried to do “TV/Movie” dance moves during a real, live dance.)

My husband and I took ballroom dancing.

I so wanted to take dance lessons when I was a kid, but my dad wouldn’t let us – probably because they were so young when they started our family, and didn’t have a lot of money. I’ve encouraged Princess Nagger to take lessons, but she hasn’t shown any interest, though she does love to dance! π
