Do you remember what you did last year on Earth Day? With Earth Day in two weeks, now is the perfect time to educate ourselves, our children and grandchildren on the importance of caring for our planet. There are sure to be community activities in our own local areas that we can participant in, along with possible school activities. Earth Day is also the day the new Disneynature African Cats film opens in theaters.
African Cats is Disneynature’s third release following Oceans & Earth.
Synopsis: “African Cats” features the real-life love, humor and determination of the kings of the African savanna: Mara, an endearing lion cub who strives to grow up with her mother’s strength, spirit and wisdom; Sita, a fearless cheetah and single mother of five mischievious newborns; and Fang, a proud leader of the pride who must defend his family from a rival lion.
DisneyNature is passionate about conservation. When “Earth” opened, Disneynature promoted “Buy a Ticket, Plant a Tree” which led to the planting of 2.7 millions trees in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. With last year’s “Oceans” there was “See Oceans, Save Oceans” which helped to establish 40,000 acres of a marine protected area in The Bahamas, preserving essential coral reefs. Now, during “African Cats” opening week (April 22-28) a portion of the proceeds from that week’s ticket sales will be donated to the African Wildlife Foundation through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund to protect Amboseli Wildlife Corridor, a passage between the Amboseli, Tsavo West and Chyulu Hills National Parks that is frequently used by lions, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, giraffes and a host of other animals in the African savanna.
I can’t wait to see African Cats! Not only do I know NY and I will enjoy this film but I know our grandchildren will too … and that’s very important to us.
We didn’t receive any compensation for this post. We were offered an opportunity to attend a screening of “African Cats” however we had a prior commitment with our grandchildren to go to the San Diego Safari Park. The italic wording in this post was taken from the “African Cats” press release.
