We like playing games. We enjoy games that challenge us intellectually and games that our youngest grandchild can not only play, but win. Our newest discovery is a spin on the long time favorite, Monopoly. Hasbro has taken the best selling game and Zapped it into modern technology. How popular is Monopoly? More than 275 million games have been sold worldwide. It’s available in 111 countries and in 43 languages. That’s pretty dang popular! And now Monopoly has entered the world of high-tech.
I’d wager to say most people have heard the phrase, “Do not pass GO.”
During my career as a mother, I’ve actually said it to my kids. And now a time or two or three or four to my grand kids. “Go straight to bed, do not pass GO”. Monopoly! It’s in our heads.
We’ve been playing the new Monopoly Zapped with our two youngest grand kids. They LOVE it! The board is still classic with a slight variation on the game pieces. Plus the game gets zapped with the touch of an iPad, iPod or iPhone. My first inclination was that it just wouldn’t be the same. Well, the game is the same but with a lot of little mini extra challenges that kids of all ages will love. Even we “grown-up” kids!
So, let’s set up the game board, choose individual game tokens and credit cards (yes … credit cards) and get started. We chose to play on an iPad.
The Monopoly Zapped app is free. Download it and simply follow the instructions. Each player types their name in when prompted to do so.
Scan your credit card and you’re ready to play.
The game is played the same with an iPod or iPad.
The spinner actually spins. It’s really quite awesome.
When it’s your turn, roll the dice and move your token. Then you simply touch the screen according to where you land on the board. For instance: You land on a property and would like to buy it. Tap “Property.” If you land on someone else’s property and need to pay rent. Tap “Pay rent”.
If you are paying out money or taking in money you simply punch in the amount and …
Land on “Go to Jail?
Tap the ‘Get out of Jail’ button. Now you have to fling your little guy over the wall and land in the getaway car. If you miss you’re stuck in jail until your next turn when you get another try at landing in the getaway car.
Community Chest has several mini video games to play. You usually get to pick another player to compete against.
An example is the ‘Unscramble the Money’ competition between DD (aka NY/David/Grandpa) and Cathi (me!).
As with ‘Community Chest’ Chance will usually pit players against each other. Remember … it’s all good fun!
In this challenge DD is competing against Kennedy who has leaky pipes in her basement. The object is to plug the leaks on your side of the screen quicker than your opponent by simply tapping the leak.
Our grand kids LOVE Monopoly Zapped. They both favored the ‘Get out of Jail’ challenge so much that they were disappointed if they didn’t end up in jail. How cool is that?
It’s easy peasy to save the game and just as easy to start it up again. The longest MONOPOLY game in history lasted for 70 straight days. We’ve only been playing our game for two weeks. We have a long way to go before we break that record.
Monopoly Zapped is available on Amazon.
