Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
I love this scripture. I believe in it with all my being. This scripture brings me peace when perhaps I feel a bit overwhelmed with surrounding circumstances. A bit like now.
My mother was hospitalized last week with pneumonia. She’s 86 years old and lives in an apartment in my sister’s backyard. Being my mother’s caregiver is a full time job for my sister. My mother is a spitfire and doesn’t necessarily listen to council or do what is best for her. She’s quite vocal with her opinions too. She’s doing better and has been transferred to an assisted living facility where she spent time after her last hospitalization. She likes it there, although she doesn’t always remember that fact. She likes the activities and the social atmosphere around the dining room. Hopefully she will follow the rules, not roam the halls at night and they won’t “kick” her out like last time.
Momma – December 2007
Tuesday evening NY’s mother fell in her kitchen. She is 78 years old and lives in a senior village a mile or so from our home. We were alerted by phone when she pushed her medic alert necklace. The paramedics came and got her up off the floor however she didn’t want to go to the hospital. Pat, a very good friend who lives next to NY’s mom, volunteered to stay the night with her. I had toe surgery that same day and NY felt he needed to be home to watch over me too. Poor man. She and Pat had a rough night so the next morning his mom was taken by ambulance to the hospital. I had a rough night too and even though we were tending Monkey Boy and The Princess, Ny let me sleep and he took them to the hospital with him. It made for an exciting hospital visit all the way around. Poor man. After staying in the ER all day, his mom was finally transferred to a room at midnight. At 3am we received a phone call stating she was having trouble breathing and had to be intubated and put on a respirator. We now know that she had a heart attack went into respiratory arrest. She is in ICU and on life support. NY is at the hospital now and his sister is flying in this evening from Texas. NY’s brother will pick their sister up while we wait and find out the prognosis. NY is his mother’s main caregiver and I’m very worried about him. My NY is a fixer. It is his nature to care for others and try to fix situations.
NY’s mother – November 2006

Oh, Cathi. You all are going through hard times. And, you are right to keep going back to that scripture. I know that when I have been going through tough times, I just keep repeating God’s name in my head. It helps me stay focused on him instead of my problem.
I have you in my prayers.
Mrs P says
I am so sorry to hear about both of your mothers. May God be with you and your families during this time. May both mothers be well.
