Most everyone uses or has heard of smart phones. Those little devices that were mainly used for making phone calls, but are now used for almost everything except making phone calls. You know, the devices that usually seem smarter than us users! Especially, (dare I say!) the older we get. Well, I’m here to tell you about even more smart devices: Samsung Smart Cameras. The Samsung WB200 Smart Camera to be exact. We shopped at Walmart for this awesome little camera. While many Walmarts may have it in stock, ours had us place an online order. Because we knew the exact model we wanted to purchase, and it was available, it took Walmart less than 5 minutes to process the order. And within an hour or two the camera was ready for pickup. It could not have been any easier!
I’m also here to tell you this little baby is awesome, but can seem overwhelming unless its capabilities are understood. So, to save you the learning curve I experienced, here are my step by step instructions for loving the Samsung WB200 Smart Camera. It is really smart … but you’re smarter!
1. on/off button 2. settings dial 3. flash 4. zoom 5. wi-fi direct link
The Samsung WB200 is a compact system camera that’s very easy to use. It simply does a whole lot more than your standard point and shoot. Once you turn it on, choose your preferred setting. I like to go with AUTO. No brainer. Point and shoot! If you want/need a flash, you can set the WB200 to automatically use a flash as needed or simply push the flash button. An adorable little flash will pop up and you’re ready to go. If you want to send a photo to a friend by email or post a photo directly to social media or Cloud, you have the Wi-Fi direct link button that works magic. And for your video recordings the microphone is located on top of the camera too.
1. 3 inch hybrid touch screen 2. video control 3. control button 4. photo/video playback button
You can’t beat the 3 inch hybrid touch screen. Yep! Touch Screen! The little red video button is another piece of one touch magic. Point the camera, push the red button and voila … you’re shooting video! The menu button pulls up the basics and there’s also a back button to use while editing, finding the perfect filter, etc. The five way button moves the screen curser to navigate the menu. To view your photos and videos simply push the view button and there they are, big and easy to see.
If you have a smart phone, download the Samsung Smart Camera app. It’s free and amazing. As you take photos they will automatically show up on your phone. Automatically! From there you can post them to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or do just about anything. A.Ma.Zing!
There are twelve different filters that are available to give your photos a special look. The miniature focuses in on the center of the photo giving the rest a slight blur. Use this filter if you’re shooting something in a crowd or at a distance. The Vignetting softens the edge of the photo, giving it an old fashion look. The ink painting filter literally makes the photo look as if you drew it using ink. And the oil painting filter makes you an artist with brush in hand.
If you’ve ever dreamed of being an animator, you’ve only just begun with the cartoon filter. I don’t totally understand the cross filter. It has something to do with letting light filter in from the sides and the top and bottom. How about the sketch filter? Pretty dang cool, don’t you think? (The soft filter makes me think of certain news/TV/film personalities, where there always seems to be a soft filter on the camera. Ahem…… )
Instead of buying a fish eye camera, there’s the fish eye filter. Easy peasy! Classic black and white? (This filter is for NY!) He’s a huge fan of black and white photography. I’m loving on the retro filter. Takes me back to my high school days. I didn’t realize I was actually retro though. I’m also a bit crazy about the zooming shot filter. I’m thinking about all the fun we can have with these different filters. And our teenage grandson? He’s going to be over the top in love with these options!
And this is just the tip of the ice berg for the Samsung WB200 Smart Camera’s capabilities. The manual mode lets you change the shutter speed and aperture. There’s a best face feature that helps you pick a better face then what’s in the photo. That’s way too technical for me!
I’m over the moon for the light trace effect. How cool is this? I’m needing a bit more practice with this feature but … Wow!
There are also modes for beauty face, landscape, macro, action freeze, silhouette, sunset, night and fireworks. With your imagination and the camera’s capabilities, the possibilities seem endless!
This dolphin looks as if it’s frozen in time. Or in the air!
If you have fast moving children, pets, dolphins *wink* or just want to catch an action shot, the Action Freeze mode is perfect! Our grandsons had an incredible time during a recent ‘Dolphin Interaction’ experience and I was thrilled with the action photos I was able to take.
I’m really loving the Panorama mode. It can make small look big and big look bigger!
With the Samsung 18x Zoom Lens there’s no need for multiple lens. Simply zoom, point and shoot.
And you’ll see things that weren’t even visible before the long zoom. Like the red juicy nectarines that I’ll be eating tomorrow!
I’m very impressed with the Samsung WB200 Smart Camera. While I still have a lot to learn, I know the convenience and ease of carrying it in my pocket will make it a better choice on many occasions than our large DSL camera. As with anything technical and new, practice makes perfect. We’re learning more and more each day about this camera through experience.
There are two things I wish Samsung included with the camera: 1. A detailed manual. The Samsung WB200 Smart Camera only comes with a quick start guide. I did a lot of searching the web and YouTube to learn more about how to use it. 2. A case to protect the camera. I’m fine without those two items however I still wish they were included.
Whether you want a camera for close-ups, candids or panoramas, I do believe you’re going to love the Samsung WB200 Smart Camera as much I do! Wow! I think I may have learned something, and I own that camera 🙂
Admittedly I’ve been shooting a lot with the manual rather than auto, but I haven’t tried out the panorama yet. I’m thinking I will need a tripod for that function.
Chelsea @ Someday I'll Learn says
That light trace function is SO cool!
April says
Is there a timer setting and does it mount on a tripod easily?
Cathi says
Hi April,
Yes, the Samsung WB200 smart camera does have a timer and can easily attach to a tripod.
Thanks for asking!!
