My mother and NY’s mother
I thought it was time I gave an update on how they both are doing.
My Mother
Summer 2000 – NY and Momma
Momma is still in the assisted living facility and it’s difficult to say if she is improving or not. She no longer has pneumonia but has fallen a few times. One of her falls took place during her physical therapy. It’s evident that she is not ready to live on her own again, so when the facility phoned my sister for a meeting she was concerned the message was going to be that they would be releasing Mom. Well, that wasn’t what the meeting was about. It was to inform my sister that an alarm had been installed on my mom’s bed. Now every time she gets out of bed the alarm sounds off and everyone knows she’s up. It’s for her own safety. Hopefully it will keep her from from falling and trying to do everything on her own. My sister is preparing to go away on holiday and I’m hoping Momma can come stay with us for a visit during that time.

NY’s Mother
NY, his mother and me – On a flight to New York
NY’s mom has had a remarkable recovery. Two weeks ago she was on life support and a week ago she was transferred to an assisted living facility. She still isn’t able to sit up on the edge of the bed for more than 15 minutes a day and is lying pretty much flat most of the time. Ny however took her cell phone to her and she’s having a delightful time phoning everyone. To listen to her on the phone you would never know she’s currently incapacitated. We are concerned about the pain she feels in her hips when she tries to sit up though. My head is having trouble wrapping around the fact that no one is certain why she can’t sit up for any length of time or walk yet. All tests and images have come back negative for fractures and breaks.
So, the mom’s are on the mend and doing better (kind of), and my toe has healed fairly well.
On a lighter note, M and the babies surprised us with a visit. I enjoyed time with M, and the babies just about ran NY into the ground. Swimming, eating lunch, drinking root beer, jumping from the top of the stairs into a bean bag on the landing, swimming, eating chocolate bars, jumping off the bunk beds into pillows and bean bags, swimming again, more chocolate and root beer, sliding across the tile entry on bean bags, one last swim and chocolate bars to go…

I’m glad to hear that both Moms are doing better but it is strange that they can’t figure out what’s wrong with NY’s Mom. Does she mention the pain at all?
Sounds like you had a great visit! It’s always nice to have kids around the house.
