We watch people falling from the sky almost every day. They strap packs on their backs and then jump from a small twin engine airplane when it reaches the appropriate altitude. We can see them from several vantage points: from our high vaulted ceiling windows and from our second story deck. What’s amazing is that most times you can hear them before you see them. The shoots make a distinctive swooshing sound as they open.
This past weekend there seemed to be more skydivers than usual jumping at one time. We counted as many as fifteen parachutes several times, although only five are visible in this photo.
When our youngest son Todd turned eighteen he made his very first jump from this well known skydiving spot. I remember watching him sign his life away before the jump. The signing was actually video taped for liability reasons! This was only two years after our daughter lost her life in an auto accident so I wasn’t crazy about our ‘baby’ jumping out of a plane … even though the jump was a birthday present from us. It was the only thing he really wanted.
Have you ever jumped from a plane? Do you have any desire to?

Absolutely NO desire to jump from a plane. During a family trip to Disney World as a child, I did try something different. I went parasailing. Lucky for me it was before they switched to the harness system. My brother and I sat in a chair that was hoisted up into the air. It was amazing looking at the scene that included the castle.
