We make just about everything we eat from scratch. That way we know what’s in it and more importantly what isn’t in it. This simple recipe for taco seasoning is perfect for any south of the border dish. I mix mine up and store it in a 1/2 pint mason jar. Not only is it delicious but it’s pretty too! And let’s be honest, we all love pretty food. This by far is our most used seasoning. We always make enough to share with Mindi, Kennedy and friends!
Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 4 teaspoons black pepper
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 4 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons cumin
Mix all the ingredients together and store in an air tight jar. You can add more of ‘this’ and less of ‘that’ adjusting the recipe to your taste.
That’s it! You’re ready to make tacos, burritos or whatever your heart desires.
Enjoy!

I make my own taco seasoning too! I LOVE it! SO much better for you and nothing in it you don’t know. Taste good in almost anything you want to put it on.

Now this is totally something to have on hand. We have tacos all the time and I am always purchasing store-made seasoning. It would be great to have my own, ready to go

We usually season our taco meat as we make it, but this would be so much easier. Looking at this recipe I realize we are missing a few ingredients.

I have been meaning to look at this one. I actually use a lot of taco type seasoning and this is much better. I would think it would be much better in that the spices would be fresher. I had no idea oregano was in there.

I can’t wait to try this, how much of this seasoning to a pound of ground meat please😁
Cathi says
I use a tablespoon however it’s all a matter of taste. Add a few teaspoons and then more to get to your desired taste.
Thanks!! Cathi

Do you also add water like me with the premixed?
Cathi says
Yes. I use a vegan ground ‘meat’ and I add fresh chopped onions and garlic with 1/4 to 1/2 cup water and them let it all cook down.
