This is a sponsored post through Torrance, California. All opinions, thoughts and photographs are our own.
One of our favorite things about traveling is discovering great places to eat. We love exploring eateries that offer unique and delicious cuisine. The Depot restaurant – Torrance, California is a perfect example of what we love to discover.
Housed in an old historic train station built in 1912, Chef Michael Shafer’s Depot will take you back in time. He’s been bringing delightful creations to the tables of The Depot since 1991. His fare is inventive, adventurous and memorable.
Be prepared to experience elegant and classical cuisine from all over the world. The menu also includes US favorites from the East Coast, Southwest and California.
We dined at The Depot for lunch while discovering Torrance. It truly was one of the highlights of our stay in the area.
The Depot is fascinating and gorgeous. Our waitress, Suzanne, was a delight. She was more than willing to adapt whatever she could to accommodate our preference for plant-based food. The decor is beautiful and reminiscent of the days when our parents were young. The music of 1940s filled the air as we enjoyed great food and atmosphere.
Our meal started with a delicious assortment of breads with pesto butter. Delicious, I tell you!
On a whim, I ordered the Wedge Salad. Served with tender red and yellow beets, candied pecans, tomatoes and blue cheese dressing (and bacon, which I omitted), this wedge salad is like no other. I honestly have never tasted a wedge salad as delicious as this one. Never before and never since. And believe me, I’ve been trying!
Another dish that was absolutely incredible: Carmelized Brussels Sprouts. Served with almond, figs and shaved manchego, this was actually my main dish. I was one happy diner!
David went with a scrumptious hearty bowl of the soup of the day with fresh herbed toast points. David and I like share what we each order, so we can both enjoy a wide range of food for our taste buds to experience.
The Depot offers ample seating at tables or booths. There’s also seating at the bar.
The window lined room at one end of The Depot is appropriately named the Wine Room.
Drenched with natural light and a view of busy street activity, the Wine Room is perfect for private parties of 20 to 30 people.
David says: It was great to experience very delicious food in such a unique setting. And the waitstaff could not have been more attentive or accommodating.
Cathi says: love Love LOVE the Depot! I fell in love with the ambiance as soon as we walked in the door. I loved the 40s music and vintage decor. And the food! Oh my goodness, the dishes we ordered were brilliantly plated and absolutely delicious.
