Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values.
~ Thomas S Monson
There have been Christmases past when I’ve been blessed by the generous giving of friends and family. Gifts were provided for my children when otherwise there would have been none. This was especially so the Christmas just 3 months after my daughter died and my first husband left the marriage. My boys and I were reeling from the traumatic turns our lives had taken, while desperately trying to find solace during the celebration of the birth of our Savior. We were gifted anonymously with a beautiful Christmas tree and gifts to be opened Christmas morning. It was a difficult Christmas to say the least. But the loving spirit of giving from others made it a cherished one that I will remember forever.
We can all have the spirit of giving this Christmas in whatever capacity we can. Whether it be a tangible gift or even the gift of a smile to a loved one, friend, or stranger. Give the spirit of Christmas.
