Finding Beauty
There’s a lot going on in the world. Things and events I could never have imagined in my more than 60+ years. These tumultuous times have been weighing heavy on my mind for the last several months.
I’ve lived through a lot: the 60’s era of free love and flower power, the Vietnam War, giving birth to four children, burying two of those children, divorce after over 20 years of marriage, the tragic events of 9/11, the Gulf War, a terrorist bombing in Spain, the current COVID-19 pandemic, and now America in turmoil. The ramifications of the pandemic are scary. We isolated out of abundance of caution. But current unrest and civil disobedience that some parts of America are experiencing is heartbreaking. And in some cases seemingly more terrifying than the pandemic.
So I’m making an effort to focus on finding beauty that can be found all around. It’s possible to do so in everything, if you look hard enough.
Finding Beauty has become the theme of my morning walks. Sometimes it’s a jump-out-in-your-face beauty that you simply can’t miss, like a powerful sunrise or perfect sunflowers. Other times its beauty hiding in the midst of chaos that might take extra effort to look at more closely to see. But I believe looking for and finding beauty, wherever possible, can help bring the world together.
If we can but learn to find beauty in our surroundings, in every person, in every situation. Even in a bad situation, if a lesson is learned, there’s beauty to be found. Finding the beauty in most every experience, I believe, can help make the world a better place.
From afar the beauty may not be readily apparent. But take a closer look.
A field of flowers! Seeing these tiny brightly colored ‘weeds’ while in bloom was one of the highlights of my morning walks! I simply had to take a closer look or would have otherwise missed the hidden beauty of it.
Even in this field of overgrown brush there can be so much beauty!
Sometimes you might have to look closer or from a different angle. But the beauty can jump right out at you!
It’s my goal to look to find beauty everywhere, in everything, and in everyone.
Every. Single. Day!
