We’re doing our best to live a green lifestyle. And we think we’re doing a pretty good job of it. After reading Green Enough by Leah Segedie, we’re learning there’s a lot more we can do. We’ve already been striving to have a chemical-free home by using chemical-free bath and body products as well as household cleaning products. We eat an organic vegan diet and support companies that are in harmony with the planet and that give back to the community.
This is done not only with the planet in mind, but specifically because of our health. Mine in particular. I suffer from severe MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity). I cannot be around the many and varied chemicals that permeate our environment. My body will not tolerate fragrances that are in most products used everyday by people.
I can’t go to the mailbox and get the mail because of scent of printed materials. The ink is toxic to me. I have to wear a medical mask most often when in public. I need to stand outside the office of most appointments because of my reaction to other people’s hair and body products (shampoos, conditioners, lotion, deodorants, laundry soaps, etc). I smell/react to things most people are not even aware of. My 14 year old grandson thinks it’s awesome and compares me to Wolverine’s sense of smell. I’ve assured him it’s not at all awesome for me. (But I’m happy to be his hero!)
My immediate (within minutes) symptoms are: burning in my nose, eyes, throat and chest; headache which causes nausea; numbness and tingling lips and tongue; metallic taste in my mouth; alll over itching and ultimately, anaphylactic shock.
So living green is not only a worthy goal and desire of ours; it’s a necessity.
Going green can be overwhelming, costly and a challenge. But I’m here to tell you, Leah Segedie has done all the research and homework to make it downright easy. In her new book, (affiliate link—>) Green Enough, Leah explains in easy to understand plain laymen terms everything you need to know about why and how to go green. She doesn’t beat around the bush. She says it like it is and sometimes quite colorfully. Reader be warned! (Big WINK!)
I’ve been reading and re-reading Green Enough for two weeks now. It actually can be read in a day, or two at most. But I keep referencing the book over and again and as I go about make changes in our home. I seriously cannot put the book down. I’ve read a good portion of the book out loud to David.
We have the Kindle edition of Green Enough. Thank you so much, Leah, for making sure your book was available in this format. As I stated, I cannot be around printed material including new books. And the Kindle edition makes it both possible for me to read this valuable book and also to have it with me at all times.
Leah has spent years researching (and fighting) so we all can live a healthy lifestyle. She offers an irreverent but entertaining take on making smart, healthy choices for families everywhere. She makes it easy to detoxify your home, diet, and lifestyle.
My personal favorite part of the book is ‘Naming Names’.
Leah has taken everyday products and listed them in Bad, Better and Best categories. She’s made it easy peasy to replace (as needed) your current food and home and body products with healthier ones. When you need to buy more laundry products, just refer to the appropriate list and buy the Better or as we have, Best products. Same goes for shampoo, face moisturizer and so on. Leah has even given suggestions on buying non-toxic furniture. Easy peasy I tell you!
I’m 100% on the living green band wagon and have been for years. But you know what? I honestly wish that I knew what I know now when my kids were growing up. (During the 80s and 90s) While we grew much of our food and ate a healthy whole food diet with little junk food or fast food, our home was not chemical free. That could very well be why I now suffer from MCS.
So what are you waiting for? Now it the perfect time to make your lifestyle green enough. Do it for the planet. Do it for you, your children and do it for your grandchildren. You’ll never regret doing it but you might regret not doing it.
We were more than happy to partner with Mamavation and Leah Segedie on Green Enough!

I had to get a TON of insurance to name named 😉

Leah really isn’t an advocate for a better, healthier tomorrow for our families. I’ve actually read this book and learned so much more about what we can all do to live even greener.

I am trying to live as green as I can and am vegan so I feel like I am doing as much as possible. It is great to read about differnet things I could do so I will look for Leah’s book.

I can’t imagine how it is to suffer from such a severe sensitivity. The Naming Names section of the book is so handy to have.

Green Enough sounds like a great book to read to help our family try to be more environmentally conscious. It has definitely been a goal of mine for some time.

I think the book is worth a read just for the good, better, best part alone. I am always struggling to know which products are the best choices for my family, and this information would be so helpful to have handy!

It’s so hard to know what is good for you and what is not good for you because of all the mixed information online. I agree that living green is super important; I just wish it were easier to know fact from fiction.
