“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another” ~ Charles Dickens
We live in the vicinity of the Holy Fire, which is one of the many devastating wild fires raging in California. For several days we’ve been under the shadow of smoke, have witnessed the not too distant flames, and seen and heard countless drops from air tankers. All of this from our home, not knowing if the fire would make its way to us or not. It chose another direction. Mandatory evacuations have affected friends and community members in the direction the fire did take.
Charles Dickens words are especially relevant at this moment in time. Today our church congregation will meet but only for a shortened sacrament service. We’ll then organize into groups to fan out in the community to assess the damage and set forth plans of action to assist those who need help. From meals, to cleanup, helping hands power, to compassionate service. Whatever may be needed.
Let’s determine to lighten the burdens of others whenever and wherever we can, today, tomorrow, and everyday.
