Our daughter was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis at age five. She was hospitalized in San Diego’s children’s hospital for five weeks. After two surguries and weeks of recuperation, she was released to return home just a week before Christmas. She was equipped with a stationary suction machine next to her bed and a portable one for traveling in the car. She took medications every three hours. Needless to say, her medical bills were astounding.
We were not in a position to pay the hundreds of thousands of dollars that our insurance didn’t cover. Thank goodness for government programs that helped ease the burden or we could very well still be paying those bills.
Speak Now for Kids is an advocacy campaign of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals (N.A.C.H.) designed to engage child advocates in communicating with Congress before they cut funding for two key children’s health care programs: Medicaid, which funds health care coverage for one in three children in the U.S. and the Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) program which funds pediatric residency training. Can you believe these cuts are even being considered? It’s getting scary!
Download this flyer to help children have a voice concerning to their medical needs. Simply have your child color the picture and drop it in the mail. It’s an easy thing to do and it could make such a huge difference!
Join the chat tomorrow 11/16 on Twitter from 2pm to 3pm ET using the hastag #dontcutkids. Even one of us can make a difference when we stand together!
