With three young grandchildren I thought I was familiar with every kids show on television. I was wrong!
… is an incredible animated children’s series that is exactly what the name implies.
A world made up of words.
A world made up of words.
*Welcome to WordWorld, the first preschool series where words are truly the stars of the show! Come along for an adventurous romp into a colorful, vibrant world of words with the lovable, legible WordFriends–animals whose bodies are made up of the letters that spell the word they are.The WordFriends are characters first and words second. The WordFriends go on comic adventures and face challenges that can only be resolved with the right word. That word is built letter by letter, sound by sound. I settled in on the sofa to watch WorldWorld, Rocket to the Moon, with Bear, my 5-year old grandson and The Princess, my 3-year old grand daughter. Both of them were literally glued to the television. I was both stunned and thrilled. Stunned because they rarely sit still for more than a moment at a time; thrilled because of their involvement with the WordWorld characters and their participation in the activities.
I honestly am anxious to have a variety of WordWorld programs available for them to watch. It may not be necessary though, as they watched the Rocket to the Moon episode over and over again.
All…day…long!
Studies have shown that in the US by the Fourth Grade, less than one-third of all
American children are reading at or above grade level. This is a tragedy that can be reversed. WordWorld is proven to be an effective literacy tool. Studies have shown that this delightful series can double a child’s vocabulary and triple their ability to read specific words featured in WordWorld.
PBS is launching the second season of WordWorld with a Valentine’s Day special on February 13th, 2009.WordWorld is also available for purchase at Target.
