We’d like to thank Anthem Blue Cross for sponsoring this post. We’re grateful to work with a company that supports us in our goal of staying healthy in our golden years.
David and I are in the time of our lives that are commonly referred to as the golden years. We’d like to share four ways to stay healthy in our golden years that we feel have benefited us.
We’ve raised our family, traveled the world, and retired from our chosen careers. We’re enjoying retirement, all the while doing our best to stay healthy and active.
1. We do our best to stay active.
We’ve come to the realization that after some periods of inactivity our bodies aren’t quite as willing to “get up and go.”
We’ve made it a priority to take daily morning walks in our neighborhood, weather permitting. We have several different routes to choose from that average about 2 miles. These walks give a great start to our day.
We also make it a point to hike a local nature preserve. The foliage changes with the seasons, as do the activities of the local wildlife.
2. We eat a healthy organic vegetarian diet, which is our personal preference. Everyone, however, needs to choose a diet that appeals to their preference and lifestyle. The main point is to eat foods that provide ample nutrition and energy needed to sustain a healthy lifestyle and well-being.
Our personal choice has been to eliminate junk food and avoid most fast food restaurants. We eat out less often but are always willing to make adjustments depending on where we happen to be and who we’re with.
3. We take time to volunteer in our community, and stay active with our children and grandchildren. We’ve found that giving of ourselves and of our time helps us feel we can make a positive difference. We spend at least one day a week doing volunteer service for our church. We also love supporting our children and grandchildren with their projects, interests and activities.
4. We take care of ourselves with the help and guidance of trusted health care professionals.
Anthem Blue Cross strives to create a better healthcare experience for consumers. For those in their golden years this includes offering Medicare Advantage plans that provide high-quality and affordable healthcare services. It also includes social and support needs, which can promote and improve health and well-being.
Anthem-affiliated health plans, including Anthem Blue Cross, offers a new expanded package of benefits in 2019. These benefits provide wellness services that include healthy food delivery, health-related transportation services, and adult day care visits. These wonderful programs can help reduce loneliness and help with daily activities at home. This means many people in their golden years have the opportunity to stay independent in their own homes longer. And this equals big peace of mind for so many!
Having good health insurance cannot be understated. Choosing a provider can be both confusing and overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be. Anthem has made it easier to maneuver their website and choose a plan that best meets our personal needs. It simply doesn’t get any better than that!
All these things are important to us because we want to be around to watch the family grow, to be active enough to enjoy our children, grandchildren and future great-grandchildren, and to continue to travel and experience the world around us.
What do you do to stay active and healthy? Where is your path in life taking you?
Again, a big thank you to Anthem Blue Cross for sponsoring this post. It’s comforting to know they support those of us in our golden years.
