The Greatest Show on Earth is back! And it’s centered around a brand new theme … Dragons!
We attended opening night at the Ontario Citizen’s Bank Arena. We had a fabulous time. It truly was the best circus we’ve seen. I loved that it wasn’t a three ring circus with the exception of the small animal acts. It was easier for me to see ALL the action with only one show performing at a time.
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey never cease to amaze me with the spectacular acts, animals and fun. It really is the ‘Greatest Show on Earth!’
Before the circus actually starts all ticket holders are able to participate in the All Access Pre-Show. Everyone in attendance is able to mingle with the performers, get autographs, participate in activities and even watch an Asian elephant paint a picture. That picture is then raffled off to one of the circus goers!
Of course there’s a plethora of circus food, including our grand daughter’s favorite cotton candy.
Okay … so the National Anthem led by the elephant proudly displaying the American flag always brings me to tears.
I’m not sure who has more fun. The clowns performing their hysterical antics or the crowd laughing and cheering them on.
I don’t know how to ride a horse and quite frankly I’m quite frightened by their size, but … these horse were magnificent and gorgeous! They perform with and without their trickster riders.
It wouldn’t be a circus without a high wire act. DRAGONS takes it one step further with Alex Petrov, a motorcycle, and aerialists … ALL way up high.
The Big Cat act was incredible. Alexander Lacey and the cats have a rapport that quite obviously goes beyond the netted ring. They reminded me of puppies that get excited after performing a new trick.
The finale for Alex and his feline troupe is when Masai climbs upon a mirrored ball and is joined by …
… Alex. Masai turns his great head to Alex and they actually snuggle!
The aerial artistry of the girls in the clear bubbles was both beautiful and sit-on-the-edge of your seat scary.
Now there were two acts that I didn’t watch. Not because I was at the refreshment stand, but because they gave me the eebie jeebies. The first was the two gals that literally hung by their hair. Their hair!!
The other act was the Shaolin Warriors. Being lifted in the air on pointy steel spears and jumping through fire breathing swords just isn’t my thing. To do, or watch. But most everyone else in attendance found it mesmerizing.
The Soring Scalas and the Mighty Asadullins come together to create spellbinding acts on teeter boards. Look closely at the above photo. Two men jumped down on the teeter-board on which the gal who is in the air was standing. She is tossed in the air where she does a complete flip and …
… lands atop the shoulders of a man, that is standing atop a long pole, that is being held on the belt of the man on the bottom!. By the way, the man holding the pole also has another man standing on his shoulders, who also has a woman standing on his shoulders. So, the base man is supporting the weight and balancing two men and two women, one of which flew through the air and landed .. atop everyone. Impressive!!
The Asian elephants are a kick. I always think their individual personalities come out in their performances. Especially the first two elephants in this photo. The lead elephant kept her tail up close to her body and lifted to the side. The next elephant was constantly trying everything possible to grab hold of the tail as they all marched around in unison, trunk to tail. Too funny!
The Torres family with eight motorcycles roaring at speeds up to 65 mph inside a 16 foot globe of steel. Amazing and quite breathtaking!
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey DRAGONS wouldn’t be complete without a fire breathing dragon. And yes, that’s real fire!
Don’t miss your opportunity to see Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey DRAGONS. Performances will be in Ontario through Tuesday 7/24/12 and will begin in Anaheim on Friday 07/27/12.
