We were a car short this week when the bigger one was undergoing some diagnostics. We thought we had enough time to pick it up from the repair shop before the boys got out of school … but we didn’t. There also wasn’t enough room for five kids (grands plus friends) and two car seats. Ten year old Austin and his good friend were quick to volunteer to walk the 2 or so blocks to our house. It wasn’t that many years ago that our kids walked three or four times that distance, and sometime more when they were growing up. I didn’t really think twice about it back then. However I have yet to ever let our grandchildren walk to or from school alone.
Austin and his pal were feeling quite independent. But about 5 seconds after this photo was taken they realized we had been following them in the car. Which we did … all the way home. *wink*
How old do you think is old enough, in this day and age, for children to walk the neighborhood alone?
