1. Have a Family Water Gun/Balloon Challenge
Gather the family and/or gather your friends. It doesn’t matter your age. Pass out the water guns and/or fill a bucket with water balloons and get ready for fun! It may bring out the competitive side of some that may surprise you. This just might become a family tradition. Give it a go and enjoy!

2. Play a Game of Tree Tag
Yes… Tree Tag! It’s easy peasy to play. And all you need is a setting with a bunch of trees. It can be your local park or even your backyard. Pick someone to be “IT” and everyone run for a tree. You’re safe as long as you’re touching a tree! But only one person to a tree. Decide how long you can stay at a tree without running. Then make a GO for it!
3. Make Watermelon Cupcakes
Making Watermelon Cupcakes couldn’t be easier. Take your favorite cake recipe or a simple white cake mix. Add some green food coloring and bake cupcakes as directed. It’s best to use green cupcake liners, however any pink or red works as well. Make your favorite white icing. Add red food coloring to get a bright pink color. Frost your cupcakes and sprinkle with mini chocolate chips. Voila! Watermelon Cupcakes!

4. Build a Sand Castle
You need not have access to a beach. You can make a lovely sand castle at the lake, your local park, or even your own backyard (depending on your soil). Make it simple or make it elaborate. Just have fun!

5. Enjoy a Campfire
There’s something calming about a campfire. When the kids were growing up our go to vacation was camping at the beach, a National Park, or primitive campgrounds. We started and closed the day with a campfire. We cooked over it, but mostly relaxed by the mesmerizing flames. When the kids were teens they built a fire pit in our backyard, which was a gathering place for them and their friends all year long.
6. Can Some Food
It’s easier than you think! I promise! Canning food is something everyone should know how to do. Be it water bath or pressure cooker, it really is quite easy. You can even do it with an Instant Pot! Self reliance is something that can bring great comfort, especially living in the current pandemic.

7. Go to a Baseball Game
When was the last time you cheered on your favorite team? Was it a professional game or were you cheering on your children or grandchildren? Go to a baseball game. Even if it’s a local game and you don’t know a soul. Cheer on both teams! You’re sure to make a player’s day!

8. Eat at a Food Truck
There’s something delicious and satisfying about food trucks. Google local food trucks and your sure to find some in your area. There are even apps for finding food trucks. There’s a food truck for just about anything you want to eat. And you might even make it a habit! Whenever I find a vegan food truck I’m in heaven!

9. Visit a National Park
I have always been in awe of National Parks. When the kids were a bit older we would camp in Yosemite for a week every summer. We swam and hiked all day long. One night we had a bear try to get in the girls’ tent. All turned out well, but the screaming that came from our camp site was the talk of Upper Pines Camp Ground for days. Ha! One summer we even went on a “National Parks” road trip visiting seven National Parks. But you don’t need to plan an entire week of camping. Your visit can be a day trip.

10. Go for a Boat Ride
You don’t have to have access to a fancy yacht. Many lakes, large or small, have paddle boats, canoes, row boats or kayaks for rent. Just get outside on the water and enjoy yourself like our sweet friend Heather. You might discover a love for a new sport!
There you go.
