10 Things to do in April
Did you know?
April is named after the Greek goddess of love: Aphrodite.
April is the fourth month of the year in the Gregorian calendar, but the fifth month in the early Julian calendar.
April is also the first of only four months to have 30 days.
On a personal note, my father was born in April. My parents married in April. And now, most importantly, our first grandchild was born in April. AND… he turns 23-YEARS old this month! (How can that be?)
April can be something different for everyone. Rather than simply another month of the year, we think it can be something special for you. So please enjoy our simple list of 10 things to do in April that are sure to make a difference for you and everyone around you.

- Celebrate Easter
Easter for our family is celebrating the resurrection of the Savior, Jesus Christ. For some people it includes the Easter Bunny. So, celebrate Easter with your family and/or friends. Share the spirit of Christ or that special bunny and make it memorable.

2. Go for a Walk
Go out for a walk… anywhere. Around the block or through a local park. Or even a walk/hike at a local nature preserve. Walking is good for the body, mind and soul. The weather is warming up and it won’t be too hard to to find beauty brought on by spring.
I walk several miles every morning and actually am lucky enough to often watch the sunrise. Years ago my parents would drive a few miles to their local mall and walk the concourse before the stores opened. It was safe with a climate controlled environment for them.
3. Dance in the Rain
There’s an old saying that April showers bring May flowers. Take advantage of those showers and have yourself a dance in the rain. Sing you favorite song and dance your heart out. Get the kids and grandkids to join in and make unforgettable memories!
4. Make a Cake
Don’t wait for a birthday, a dinner party or a celebration. Simply make a cake. For no reason whatsoever! Use your favorite recipe or use one of ours. Our Vegan Carrot Cake recipe is chock full of carrots, pineapple and coconut. And nothing screams spring like our delicious Vegan Raw Cheese Cake topped with seasonal fresh fruit.

5. Look for the Rainbow
The next time it’s raining go outside and look for the rainbow. You might even be lucky enough to see a gorgeous full on rainbow! And maybe even a double one!

6. Clean Out Your Email.
Yup! Take time to delete old emails that are taking up probably lots of room on your computer. Easy peasy right??

7. Family History
Look up one of your ancestors you’ve heard stories about. There’s a plethora of websites that can help you with your search. Our favorite sites are Family Search and Ancestry. There are other ways where you actually don’t even have to go online. Ask your parents, grandparents or other relatives about your ancestors. Do it now while your precious relatives are able to share family history and memories.

8. Listen to Nature
You don’t have to live in the countryside or holiday in a mountain cabin to listen to the sound of nature. We have several bird feeders in our backyard and we love listening to the chatter and chirping of our feathered friends. There are so many things in nature to listen for. One of my all-time favorite sounds in the wind gently blowing through trees. And especially pine trees.

9. Check your area for Cherry Blossoms
While it would be incredible to visit Washington DC or Tokyo during Cherry Blossom season it’s not possible for everyone. So, go online and search for cherry blossoms in your area. Seriously! Living in Southern California I figured we were quite frankly going to miss it. But I discovered several places not too far from us where we can see the beauty of the blossoms.

10. Tour a Museum Virtually
One of the things we enjoyed during quarantine is the opportunity to virtually tour museums around the world. Visits to museums we’ve planned to see in person or revisit have been made possible from the comfort and safety of our home. These are only a few of our favorites. There are so many more that are available!
- J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu
- National Gallery of Art, Washington DC
- Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam
- Louvre, Paris
- Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, Washington DC
