1. Celebrate America
Independence Day! The 4th of July! It’s a big thing in our family. The day we celebrate and give thanks for the opportunity of living in the good ole USA. Our country has it’s share of problems, for sure. But it’s still the greatest nation on earth.
Gather family and friends together for good food, good company, and play some fun games. Just celebrate!
Be sure to check out our 4th of July treats and crafts.
2. Go to a Drive-In Movie
Drive-In Movies may be rare these days, but if you can find one local in your area give it a go. David and I grew up with drive-in movies. It was always good fun and a great way to see newly released films … on a really BIG screen! You can bring your own snacks or check out the snack bar, if they have one.
Good family fun and memories to be made!

3. Visit a Botanical Garden
Botanical gardens are beautiful and a delight to visit. On display are many different plants labeled with their botanical names. Some will have collections of plants ie. cacti, herbs, water plants. Others may have different mini gardens from countries around the world. Search online for ‘Botanical Gardens’ and you’re sure to find one or more near your location.

4. Go Camping
Yes! Camping!
All you really need are the basics. If you have a tent, sleeping bag, and a flashlight, you’re good to go. There’s a wide variety of camping gear available and some you’ll use everyday of your trip. But some are completely unnecessary.
I’m personally a big fan of tent camping. David prefers the Four Seasons, as in hotel (or Marriott, or Hilton). Ha!

5. Blow some Bubbles
Grab the kiddos and have some fun blowing bubbles. Watch the bubble’s light show in the sunlight. Or in the evening glow of the sunset. Poppin’ fun!
6. Enjoy some Watermelon
Watermelon is a summertime staple at our house. It’s a great dessert and snack. Watermelon is about 90% water, which is great for staying hydrated in the summer sun. It satisfies sweet craving with it’s natural sugars and also contains lots of antioxidants. Quite simply a perfect summertime food!
7. Cool Down at the Water Park
Gather the family, towels, and sunscreen for a fun filled day at your local water park. Be sure to check your specific water park’s website for hours, restaurants/snack bars, etc., along with what you’re permitted to bring in. Our advice: Arrive early to scope out the seating area where you want to set up home base for a day of summer fun.
8. Attend a Free Concert in the Park
Concerts in the park are a great way to cool down after a long hot day. Some are large events. But others are small and local. Many are family affairs! It’s a great way to enjoy your favorite music and also get familiar with new music. Check your community website to find a free concert close to home.

9. Celebrate National Ice Cream Month
Not that we need a reason to eat ice cream, but this sure is a good one! Enjoy your favorite flavor, or try a new one. All. Month. Long. Because, after all, July is National Ice Cream Month!
10. Play Marbles
Have a good old fashioned backyard/street game of marbles. Check out these instructions, or simply ask your grandparents, another family member, or even a neighbor that’s been around the sun more than a few times. Get the kids to turn off the video games and have a friendly family competition. Or invite the neighbor kids over. Just have fun!
There you go.
