I don’t know about you but I still can’t believe it’s MARCH!! I’m learning quickly that the more birthdays I have… the faster the days, weeks, months and years go by. But March it is! - Plant Some Flowers
Now is a great time to brighten up your surroundings with beautiful colorful flowers. Last year we planted zucchini and watermelon in our front garden. It didn’t quite work out as we had planned. So… this year my heart is set on dalias and chrysanthemums.
2. Visit a ‘New to You’ Local Business
Every town/city, big or small, is sure to have local small businesses. We’re wagering that more than a few of those small businesses are hurting with the pandemic that may have caused them to close their doors. Or drastically limit their hours. Put your social distancing skills to work and check out a local business that you’ve never used. Maybe a restaurant that provides curbside delivery, or a small farmer’s market.

3. Celebrate Spring
March 20th is the first day of spring this year so celebrate by bringing a bit of spring into your home. It can be a fresh flower arrangement or even a small branch with beautiful blooms!
Bring it in IN and enjoy the beauty of outdoors INdoors!
Or… sit outside and take in a bit of nature and listen to the birds. A favorite of mine is watching and listening to all the action of a small faint breeze.

4. Give Away Something You Don’t Wear or Use
We’ve been working at simplifying and minimizing or lives and home. That includes eliminating things we don’t use on a regular basis. We’ve used social media (you can also find local women’s shelters and the like) to find friends, family, community members that could use things. Things like an electric meat slicer, to a powerful floor cleaner, to my scroll saw and sander, to clothes and shoes. It feels good to declutter the house. And it can bring a bit of joy to the recipients!

5. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day
Why? Why not! I’ve always been big on celebrating holidays. It usually consists of decorations, themed dinners, and even a documentary about the holiday. So celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and have a bit of fun with it!

6. Eat something GREEN
Yes. Eat something green. A big green salad or a green cupcake. Even better… take it up a notch and try a delicious green smoothie with pineapple and kale. The choices are limitless and you might discover something new that you simply cannot live without.

7. Refrain From Envy
My best friend of 62 years has a lovely home surrounded by pine trees with VERY few neighbors. Deer roam freely and the squirrels and wild birds run amuck. We LOVE it. But, at times my eyes might be a little bit greener than their normal green color. It’s easy to be envious of something we wish was ours. But let me tell you… it’s a joy to be happy for whomever has what you might wish for.

8. Make a New Recipe
Try something new. Something you’ve never made before, but have thought about making. It just might become your new favorite recipe.

9. Wear a Hat
I’ve always loved hats. I still have hats from the popular trend of the 80s! And now, there are so many styles to choose from for every member of the family. I never leave the house without one. I need one for protection from the sun on my face and also because my eyes are ultra sensitive to sunlight. But don’t forget, hats can also make a fashion statement!
10. Play a Game with Family/Friends
How about a good old fashioned game of Monopoly or Clue? Apples to Apples or Racko? Scrabble or Jenga? There are SO many games out there. And they always provide a good time for our family and friends.
Here’s a secret about the mom in me: when my kids were growing up I wanted them to play board games because I wanted them to learn to be gracious winners as well as gracious losers. Ordinarily only one person can win, so amidst all the fun there are life lessons to be had.
There you go! Now… have the best March ever!!
