10 Things to do in January
1. Send a Thank You Note. It could be for a gift received, or simply for a phone call that brightened your day. Write a few thank you notes and send them by snail mail. It will more than likely be a pleasant surprise for the recipient and one they won’t soon forget. You can find a variety of printable ‘Thank You’ notes on Canva, which is my favorite website for printables.
2. Learn something new / Sign up for an online class. I try to learn something new every single day. It needn’t necessarily be something big. Sometimes it’s simply a new word. Sign up for some online classes. Time and online learning opportunities are something the quarantine has given us more of. It can be a simple class that lasts an hour or an entire day. Go for it!
3. Watch the sunrise. Watch the sunrise from your home. Or go for a walk or drive to see a different view of the sun rising. I go for a walk every morning and watching the beauty of the sunrise starts my day in the very best way.
4. Deep clean your fridge. The holidays are over and it’s time to make sure nothing is hiding in the back of the fridge. Empty it out and wash down the inside walls, shelves and drawers. Because I suffer from severe Multiple Chemical Sensitivity I simply use natural soapy water. My fridge is stainless steel on the outside and I after I wipe it down with soapy water I give it a rub down with olive oil.
5. Look people in the eye. Be it a family member, friend or even a stranger, look them in the eye, even if social distancing. When you’re having a conversation look at them. If they’re ringing up your purchases in a store, look at them. When passing by a stranger make eye contact with them. It can change your day AND the day of each person you meet!
6. Keep a Secret. Sometimes people just need a friend. A listening ear. They don’t necessarily need advice. They just need to talk. Keep their words to yourself. Things or secrets shared with you do not need to be shared with anyone else.
7. Read The Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. Why? Why not. I’ve been out of school going on 40 years. I want to refresh my knowledge of our government. I want to have educated up-to-date answers for my grandchildren. Like everyone else in our country I have opinions. I want them to be educated ones.
8. Ask for help if you need it. It’s always easier for me to do it myself. I’m pretty dang good at figuring things out and coming up with a way to get it done. But sometimes I really do need help.
9. Help someone who needs help. Helping someone shows kindness and love. It doesn’t matter if they’re family, friends or a perfect stranger. It can be as simple as picking up something that’s dropped. Or taking in a meal to someone who is ill or in need. It makes the person feel loved. And I promise… it will make YOU feel better, too.
10. Say I love you. Never let a day go by without telling those you love that you love them. I’ve learned that we can NEVER count on tomorrow. Tomorrow may not come. And you want as few regrets as possible. Say I love you. Make sure your family and loved ones know you love them. Say the words out loud. Say, “I love you.”
